40 Gigabit Ethernet - Understanding the 40 Gigabit Ethernet Technology

A group that members more than 390,000 IT professionals from approximately 150 countries proposed to introduce the 40 Gigabit Ethernet technology in July 2006. This organization known as the IEEE or the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers was responsible for the Ethernet standards that brought us the fastest data transfer technology known to man.
As of now, we are still dependent on their 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) technology for our data exchange needs. What the IEEE aims for was to increase this performance for up to 4 and 10 times. After almost a year of contemplation, the project was seen highly favorable, and so a task force was assembled to take charge.
A label of 802.3ba, following the original 802.3, was given to the project. And its primary goal was to be able to publish speed standards 40GbE and 100GbE, both greater than the 10GbE. There are two speed rates, as to be able to cater to both small sever needs like home offices (40GbE) and large server demands like that of the internet (100GbE).
Although there are already 40 Gigabit technology being implemented by means of combining four 10GbE technology into a single mode, the aspired 40GbE is completely different. The latest 40GbE will be molded into just one individual form, like a 10GbE network technology with wider capabilities.
In a matter of around 3 years in the process, the project continues to progress. Since late 2008 to early 2009, there are already nine working drafts published by the 802.3ba task force. The task force stuck to the primary plan of creating a new and faster means of information exchange without deviating from the base 802.3, the interface being used by 10GbE.
And because of their core similarities, the 40 gigabit Ethernet technology levels with the 10GbE for in terms of flexibility with various physical layer standards. With the use of certain detachable modules and adjustable circuit boards, the 40GbE could provide steady connections between devices despite different range in distances.
It is strongly presumed that the 40GbE technology will only be made available in June 2010. None the less, restrained modules are already made available by certain technological companies for various sales and testing since 2009.
With signs of certainty from the project, it is only a matter of time before we begin to witness a new twist to our technological lives. So if the 10GbE fruitfully improved our means of data transmission, believe that the 40 gigabit technology will leave more wonders for our computers.
